Okanagan Softball Camp (FAQ)
A. Oliver is located in the Sunny Okanagan Valley on the Canadian side.
- 20 minutes north of the US/Canadian border crossing located on Highway 97(Oroville/Osoyoos crossing)
- 30 minutes south of Penticton, B.C.
- 4 hours and 30 minutes east of Vancouver on either Hwy 3 (Hope/Princeton) or Hwy 5 (Coquihalla)
- 5 hours and 30 minutes northeast of Seattle either by Hwy 2 or 90 east to Wennatchee and then north up Hwy 97 through the US/Canadian border.
2. Where do we drop the players off and pick them up?
A. Drop off and pick up is at the Oliver arena located at 36003 79th Steet. Oliver, by the community fields.
3. Is there a number at which we can call to reach our kids during camp, if so, what is that number?
A. The number for camp during the months of July and August is 250 498 2259.
4. Do the campers have access to a telephone to call home?
A. Yes there is a pay phone they can use, however they must have either a long distance telephone card or a calling card.
Please educate them on how to use their calling card. It is not uncommon for campers to have a cell phone with them for their week at camp.
5. How much spending money should I give my child, and what can they spend that money on?
A. The average amount allotted by the parents is $40.00, this money is banked and can be withdrawn upon request. The money
is spent at the snack bar and at the pro shop.
A. A certified chef handles all the cooking. The players are given three square meals a day plus snacks (usually fruit).
We have had great reviews on the cooking and have been very pleased with our cook and his staff.
7. Where do the campers stay and sleep during their week of camp?
A. The campers sleep on bunks on the floor surface in the hockey arena. The bunks are comfortable and all come with a foot
locker for clothing and personal belongings. You would be very surprised with the cleanliness of the sleeping quarters as we are very strict on this matter.
A. There are four sets of showers throughout the arena, as well as showers at the community pool which they visit daily.
10. Who supervises the campers during the day and in the evening when they are off the field?
A. When the campers are split into their teams they are assigned a counselor/coach who sleeps in their area. These counselor/coaches are designated to watch over them for the week. We also have one Head Counselor that oversees the entire program. We believe that it is very important to have a controlled and structured environment for the week.
11. Is it OK for parents to watch and visit during the week?
A. By all means, we encourage parents to come to the park and observe the activities. Please note that once camp starts parents will not be allowed to visit their children in the sleeping area of the arena, however they will be able to visit in the common area of the arena. Parents are welcome to sign campers out in the afternoon and evenings when there are no activities.
12. What other activities do the kids have when not on the field?
A. Everyday between 1:00pm - 2:00pm we are in the community swimming pool (please make sure to pack swim trunks). In the evenings we
have activities such as Okanagan Idol, ping - pong tournaments, movie nights and trivia contests. Throughout the day there is free time set aside for them to relax.
13. Other than their softball attire, what other clothing will they need for the week?

- Plenty of change of under garments/t-shirts/socks and shorts
- Sun screen as Oliver is a dry and hot climate
- Feminine Hygiene Products

14. Do they have a chance to do laundry during the week?
A. During the week we launder their team shirts but due to the full hectic schedule and the numbers involved it is difficult to
launder beyond that. Please ensure that your child has enough close to last the full week of camp.
15. Do they need a pair of sliders?
A. Yes, we highly recommend that the players have a pair of sliders as they will be playing games throughout the week and will be sliding.
16. Should we buy new shoes or equipment for camp?
A. It is recommended that players arrive at camp with shoes and equipment that have been broken in.
17. At what time does the camp finish?
A. The camp concludes with an awards picnic on the last day of camp that takes place at approximately 12 noon. Parents and family members are welcome at this event.
18. Do you have a list of accommodations for the town of Oliver?
A. Yes, go into the accommodation section of the site.
19. Is it necessary to supply my child with a cell phone or calling card while in camp?
A. We feel it very important that your child does have a calling card or long distance card so that they may contact you. Ideally, a
cell phone would be best as sometimes there is a line up to use the pay phones during the down times. Please educate your child on how to use their calling cards or cell phone.
20. What about 1st Aid and medical concerns?
A. Trained 1st aid personnel will be on site. Medical conditions and need for prescription drugs MUST be reported to Camp administration upon arrival.

A. All personal belongings should be clearly marked with the camper's full name as well as a contact phone number. The Okanagan Softball Camp is
not responsible for lost items.
